Course Description
 This course will assist in the development of science related attitudes, skills, and knowledge.

 

Topics to be covered:
 Ecosystems – 5 weeks

Motion – 3 weeks

Chemical Processes – 7 weeks

Weather Dynamics – 2 weeks

Materials
 For each class you will need:

Pen or pencil

Binder for handouts and notes

Textbook

Occasionally you will need a calculator or ruler.

Evaluation
 Tests (approx. 8 ) – 46%

Labs – 6%

Assignments – 8%

Class Marks – 10% (Homework checks, use of class time, and attendance)

Final Exam – 30%

It is highly recommended that you do all assignments and complete all homework. This is not a course where you will be able to do little or no work and pull off a miracle on a test or exam. Any late assignments will be penalized 20% per day.

This is an interesting course that is a prerequisite to all other high school science courses. I hope you enjoy the semester. If you have any questions or concerns, please see me as soon as possible; after class, at lunch, or after school.

Tips for Success

 

Follow the class rules
Class Rules
Class starts on time.

Hats off when you come into class.

Only water bottles are allowed but be careful and have them full before class starts.

Keep washroom trips to a minimum and use the sign in/out sheet.

Desks are provided for you to learn comfortably, please respect the furniture and custodians who clean it.

Leave your kitbags in your locker.

This is a classroom, a learning environment, use proper language.

This is a classroom, a learning environment, cell phones, MP3s, iPods, etc. are not permitted. If seen or heard they will be taken until class ends.

Keep scents to a minimum.

Speaking in class requires a hand. Please do not interrupt when others are speaking.

 

 Extra Help

If you are struggling, please ask. Extra help is available at lunch or after school.

Questions
 Questions are welcomed. If something is not clear, please raise your hand and ask before you get too frustrated.
Homework
 You should put twenty minutes a night on your science homework. Expect homework every night that would include worksheets, review questions, and read over class notes and textbook.
Absence
 Absence is not an excuse for work not done. See me or call a classmate.
Late Assignments
 Assignments are to be handed in at the beginning of class. A 20% deduction for every day the assignment is late.
Spelling
 Marks will be taken off for spelling errors.
